Founder · Student researcher in AI, dermatology & immunology

Hi, I'm Asmi, a student at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, working where deep learning, mathematics, dermatology, and public health meet.

I'm a Johns Hopkins Study of Exceptional Talent (SET) scholar and a Davidson Young Scholar, and a published co-author on peer-reviewed research spanning medical AI. I'm a research intern at SILO Med AI and at the Interdisciplinary Scientific AI Supercomputing Hub (ISAS) at the University of Illinois Springfield, and a Physician Pipeline Preparatory (P4) Scholar at SIU School of Medicine and McNeese.

My focus is dermatology and public health: specifically, using deep learning, mathematics, and analytical chemistry to understand what actually drives sun-protective behavior. Through The Actinic Shield (TAS), I study why people do and don't protect their skin, drawing on national data from NHANES (the CDC's National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey) alongside ongoing lab work, so that prevention advice is grounded in evidence rather than guesswork.

That's why I started TAS: to turn that research into lasting change in everyday sun habits. I care most about reaching children and families through public education, teaching sun-safe behavior early, before disease ever has a chance to develop, because the most powerful tool we have against skin cancer is prevention that starts young.

Prevention beats treatment. Let's start young.
